A friend who knows I ‘ve got a litter of pups forwarded me an e-mail by by Robert Jay Russell, Ph.D., Coton de Tulear Club of America President. The info is dated 3/30, but I had been unaware of it until just now.
The product is UniMilk, made by Manna Pro.
I might like this Doctor Russell (PhD). He says:
We are thus left to the only source of speedy, sometimes accurate information available: ourselves. Specifically, we now must look to bloggers and googlers on the world wide web to provide information we should be getting from trained professionals who can be held to account for the accuracy of their information and advice. The bloggers, in turn, may or may not be kept in check by a handful of private, amateur rumor mill investigating web sites. Such is life in the new century.-
Actually, I’m not sure what that next to last sentence means. So maybe not. But the first part of it is right. petconnection also had this from the git-go.
But I digress. The toxic feed.

And how does one get this information? Is there a "recalled items" button? No.
One has to click on "Click here for information on UniMilk" which opens in a separate window.
Now that might not be such a horrible thing, except there are numerous reports that this poison was on the shelves at TSC almost a month after the recall. I don't know if it has all been pulled at this date. I would hope so.
There are no press releases about the recall on the company website.
But really, I digress again, because this could be so much more tragic than goats and puppies. A dozen or hundred calves. Which got me to thinking about all those products chock full or "ingredients" that are fed to human babies when mothers can’t or won’t breastfeed. I’d be terrified if I were feeding my baby stuff out of a can. It’s scary enough with puppies.
The good Doctor (PhD) says some ranty stuff though. Stuff I hadn’t thought of.
March 23rd, 2007.
It is estimated that as many as 65 million cans of poisoned pet foods will be dumped in landfills throughout North America this month. Many of these cans will wind up poisoning stray cats and dogs as well as a multitude of US wildlife that habitually feed from waste sites. It is an ecological disaster in the making for many bird species as well as squirrels, skunks, various rodents, rabbits, bobcats, coyotes and more.
Stuff I wish I didn’t have to hear.
In this case of massive pet food poisoning, the US government remains blind to the path of this poison through the US food supply. Is poisoned Chinese wheat in the human food supply? If so, it is unlikely to cause many sudden deaths, but the poison, Aminopterin,
is a potent folate inhibitor (Vitamin B) which is known to cause abortions and neural tube defects in surviving embryos. How many defective pets and children may be born in the US because our government has failed its responsibilities? Spinal bifida and more neurological disorders are likely to increase.
The Aminoptrin is the "rat poison" that was found before the melamine, and seemed to be a smaller incidence of discovery of toxins in food. The melamine discovery, and the fact that it killed a whole lot more pets, then entered our food chain, sort of overshadowed the first discovery of toxin.
I wonder how huge this is. How far reaching, and how long we've been being posioned by "Free Trade". I am so weary of being terrorized in the grocery store. I am weary of non-disclosure. And I wonder how many people have been sick, and for how long. And how many more will turn up that way.
I have returned to the old hippie I was, as far as my eating habits go, anyway. Thank Creator the spinich is doing well, and the Milkweed is edible and just the right size for frying hereabouts.
I’ll leave you with a final paragraph from the Doc. (PhD)
Incidentally, if there are any Saudi terrorists out there I am sure they've been taking notes during this mass poisoning event. They've clearly seen that they can easily poison a US food supply and months later, after many deaths and debilitations, the US government will still be standing stock still and silent with its hand on its ever-thickening wallet. The next Al-Quaida wake up call will be as easy as pouring a bucket of rat poison in an unguarded grain elevator in Shanghai or Shreveport. A little deadly bon apetit from Bin Laden.
